Room to grow. Spaces to enjoy.
Westlands embraces the existing landscape features on the wider site to create a development of maturity with a network of parks, open spaces and wildlife corridors in excess of forty acres.
Significant new planting will complement the existing trees and hedgerows and will provide a landscaped setting for the relief road and the residential developments.
River Park
The Six Mile Water River Corridor will become a significant feature of the Westlands development.
A riverside park will be developed to provide a natural asset that can be enjoyed by all, opening up the natural river side to create a beautiful park space. This will come forward at an early stage in the project's development as the bridge and surrounding lands are created.
Central Park
A large park will be provided at the centre of the upper part of the site. This will be a major asset within the development for the established communities of north and west Ballyclare. It will provide areas for recreation including informal play, equipped play areas, seating areas and walks.
The park will be connected to other open space areas and will form a central core to the open space network. Still in concept design, the final naming will be part of the community creation as Westlands grows.
Three km park
In addition to the large parks, a number of smaller parks and open spaces will also be developed.
Located along the length of the Westlands Road, a corridor will provide access and visibility of these spaces creating a 3.1km linear park through Westlands.
Throughout the development, homes will have dramatic views into the surrounding countryside creating a real sense of place and space.
Space to play
A number of equipped and informal play areas will be provided within the site.
• Local areas for play
Several small areas for toddlers play will be located within housing areas for easy local access. These will feature fixed equipment and seating.
• Local equipped areas for play
Three play areas with equipment to enable active play for young children will be provided in the larger open spaces and in the upper central park.
• Neighbourhood equipped area for play
An area with play equipment for older children will be provided within the upper central park.
• Community play
holm understands play is not just for children and a key aspect of the open space strategy builds on the excellent resources and clubs within Ballyclare, creating larger games areas and walking/cycling routes throughout the development
